The official Doctor Who website has released details and a video for a new online game called Amy’s History Hunt. It will launch next week on their site (note this is not the next Adventure Game).

The History Hunt stars Karen Gillan as Amy in a series of exclusive, specially shot videos. Your challenge is to help Amy unlock the Doctor’s safe and you can find out how and what’s at stake on Monday. But if you’re successful you’ll release a special short story by Paul Cornell, writer of Father’s Day, Human Nature and The Family of Blood.

Throughout the quest you’ll find out more about the Doctor’s friends and places he’s visited. Plus, you’ll get Amy’s unique point of view about some of the amazing people she’s met during her adventures with the Time Lord.

  • doctorwho9981

Oh right, sorry i juest read the description…you can play it next week…heh I should read more.

  • lol1996

    Sounds like fun

  • Alex

I don't suppose this will be available for anyone outside the UK. What a silly question – of course not.

  • Chickenboy155

I hate Karen's acting when shes not actually on the television or radio ect….. She always kinda over acts and it seems she is talking to the children instead of talking to everyone else……though still love her………she will be my wife……MWA MWA MWA MWA MWAAAA!!!

  • silurian53

It's not the best acting is it. lol :D

  • silurian53

    This looks really good!!!!

  • Mapthestars

I feel exactly the same as you about Karen and her acting when she's not on Doctor Who or any “real” Television show. it's just to fake and to much. This whole game though feels very amateurish and unprofessional to me, I not looking forward to it sadly.

  • Felix

i like amy but she aint the best companion

  • Wuz

    It's panto.
    What did you expect?

  • Mapthestars

    Panto? what is that?

  • Kirbytroid

I agree. But let's be honest, the official Doctor Who website IS focused on children. But yeah, they're never as natural as when they're in the show. Possibly because she's not talking to herself, but talking to someone else when there's no one else there.

  • Thomas

    a pantomime
    a show for kids
    he's behind you
    oh no he isn't
    yes he is

  • Thomas

    In amy's mind
“Hnnh? a vault with the doctor's handwriting telling him where the painting will be… should I tell him about this so he can find it right away OR waist time on a search that I get a little kid to do and then the kid gives me the painting and I give it to the doctor and take all the credit?… option 2 is best”

  • Thomas

    quote from text
“short story by Paul Cornell, writer of Father’s Day, Human Nature and The Family of Blood.”
how could Paul write human nature and the family of blood when it was a doctor seven story?
Is it the same writer of the old story or just a new writer to revamp the old story?

  • http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk Doctor Who TV

He wrote both. He adapted the original Human Nature book for the TV show.

  • Isandhlwana

Any little bit of Karen Gillan as Amy Pond is a joy, and something to be thankful for!

  • Thomas

    i got it thanks

  • Thomas

    0:18 seconds that's a rather demented look or 0:23
laughed at Amy's impression of the doctor.
I really take the doctor's message to heart “buy socks”

  • Thomas

i like amy too but :(
I sometimes think she was just picked because there was no one left and production had to begin soon.
steven moffat “it was incredible luck we found her at such a late stage in casting. She was the last to audition y'know and was what we were really looking for, for Amy's character”

  • Isandhlwana

Heartily disagree. Karen Gillan was not only the best choice, but most likely the best actor in the role of the companion they've ever had.

  • jak

i'll do anything for you amy ;-) ……..

    i love you.

  • Lsollo

Im glad this is not the next adventure game!!!

  • http://doctorwhowebsite.webs.com/ Daines

I guess this game could be alright….

  • Thomas

I think Amy was put here to attract a child audience. Martha and Donna are my favs. Rose was over used and Amy is overacting BUT that is what her role requires in my opinion.

  • Thomas

may have to pay for it. But that's the UK for you, we show you the rainbow and not have the gold.

  • Thomas

    If it was…. GREAT GRAPHICS.

  • Magicaldaniel

does any one think that it is going to be like the on that david did when he had to destroy the graske

  • Chickenboy155

NO! SHE IS MINE!!! I LOVE HER MORE! :D

  • Adelle

Now, now, boys. There's enough Amy for everyone.

  • Adelle

Watched some classic films a few weekends ago (I've discovered 'Film Noir') and came across this quote when I googled for background info.

She is a “dangerous looking female” …”who still hasn't learned to act”.
opinion of critic Bosley Crowther regarding Lauren Bacall in The Big Sleep (1946)

For those who like to dis Karen Gillan's acting, take note. If Karen becomes half the actor that this woman was she will be really something.

  • http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk Doctor Who TV

Well we do have to pay for all BBC content in the UK with the licence fee.

  • Isandhlwana

Martha and Donna always seemed wooden to me. Donna just bellowed a lot and Martha never seemed to be really in love with the Doctor, though she kept saying so.

  • Adelle

“Her open sexuality makes her more of an adult character too.”

That's it exactly. People seem to think that Dr Who is a kid's show. It's not and, I think, never has been. It's a show for young adults, thinkers, even geeks if you prefer. It's not just another sci-fi, it's a mystery. It's always a mystery and you get to follow along as the Doctor solves it. I'd bet that Moffat isn't the only writer that's into Sherlock Holmes. It's refreshing when a show actually treats you like an adult that can think beyond the latest music video.

  • Isandhlwana

Something I posted awhile ago in another debate over the acting abilities of the companions. I imagine we won't agree but this is a more detailed analysis I provided for my position.

Well we are going to have to disagree on this one, but I found Donna Noble's performance on the wooden side. She didn't seem to have the emotional range. She was more of a bellower, which kind of betrayed her roots in comedy. She shouted as a substitute for acting. She was more of a comic trying to act than an actor. Karen Gillan seems to have a fuller range of emotions or facial expressions at her command and is able to utilize them in a convincing way. You can see it in the way she is able to make the smallest expressions. One great example is in the attempted seduction of the Doctor. When she says who I want and the Doctor responds, you can see just the slightest movement of he mouth and eye. Similarly when she thought the Doctor had left her again in Eleventh Hour you can see the slightest movement of the mouth as her eyes closed. The other companions would've overdone these and made them unnatural. Again, in Amy's Choice we can see this again in the quiet firmness with which she says to the Doctor's statement that he can't save everyone -”then what is the point of you.” Finally in the Pandorica Opens look at the scene from where the Doctor says his nonsensical fruit fly answer to a question by her. Notice the suppressed anger and frustration mounting in her expression. This leads into the whole ring conversation. You can see frustration, desperation, sadness and confusion, and other unknown mysteries all mixed up here. In factt you get the sense that Amy has been on the knife's edge of anger, sadness, frustration and joy throughout this episode, which would make sense for the context. Gillan has stated she listened to Chopin's Raindrop prelude to help develop the mood for this episode and it seemed to work. You really get a sense of undercurrents of brooding with a volatile mix of emotions. She has clearly thought through every movement and response in a detailed way that the other companion actresses never did. Tate and Piper would've overacted and overdone the expressions. .Catherine Tate was always broad and loud. Billie Piper was lovable but then again I never found her grief convincing- such as when she was separated from the Doctor – convincing. With a bit more work I could see Gillan performing the role of Rosalind from As You Like It, a role that also has a vibrant, funny girl, but is also capable of great subtleties of wit and passion. I could never see Tate or Piper doing those roles with any degree of success.

  • silurian53

So am I!!!! But this still looks good. :P I wonder what the next adventure game will be like???

  • Thomas

How does a film noir actress and doctor who actress have anything in common. To me Karen isn't dangerous. I haven't seen these films so I can't judge
but what you said about Karen becoming half of what that woman was, she'll be something… all you said there was if Karen becomes half a good actress!… then she'll become half a good actress!
my opinion won't change of her. Katherine isn't a film noir actress.

  • Thomas

Same, same. Puzzles, sneaking and an awful lot of running.

  • Thomas

sorry but that makes her sound a bit slutty which she is not.

  • Thomas

well… you've convinced me with those comments. I never thought of Tate as a serious actress I think she is there to bring joy and comedy laughs. I enjoy comedy more then grief.

  • Thomas

    yep that's about right.

  • Thomas

Years later after you're married and Karen finds that comment and is a little freaked. Careful what you say on the internet, when it is out there, it's out there and she may read it.

  • Adelle

I'm sorry, how do you get 'slutty' from that? She is an actor, she performs for everyone.

  • Adelle

From what I can tell from the bit of history I've read, Lauren Bacall wasn't a good actress, she was a great actress. Film noir doesn't really exist anymore, I'm not sure it even can. I am saying that Bacall was harshly and unfairly judged and so is Karen. That is my comparison, nothing more.

  • Thomas

I thinks these boys want more from her than a preformance though :l

  • Adelle

@Thomas: Well, that is a performace of sorts as well. It would be nice if they taught occupational sex in high school – or at least college. It would make things so much easier – and enjoyable. As it is, you no sooner get you 'companion' properly trained and off he/she goes. (Note: Sorry about the order of things. Apparently there is a limit on the number of replies.)

  • Thomas

I have played it and the game is supposed to educate kids about history but what ends up happening is my brother pics at random and got the code before me. So I give in.
    and to anyone struggling
