Big news this weekend. Award-winning writer Neil Gaiman has confirmed that he will be penning an episode of Doctor Who. The bad news? With series five’s writers finalised, we’ll have to wait until next year to see it.

Gaiman announced the news in a special message at the SFX Weekender where he said,

As anyone who’s read my blog knows, I’m a big fan of a certain long-running British SF TV series. One that started watching — from behind the sofa — when I was three. And while I know it’s cruel to make you wait for things, in about 14 months from now, which is to say, NOT in the upcoming season but early in the one after that, it’s quite possible that I might have written an episode. And if I had, it would originally have been called “The House of Nothing”. But it definitely isn’t called that any more.

Certainly something to look forward to in 2011! If you’re not sure who Neil Gaiman is, be sure to check out some of his work over on his site.

What other episode(s) has he done? I do not recognise his name.

He hasn't done a Doctor Who episode before, but he writes sci-fi/fantasy books and comics. More importantly he loves Doctor Who. In other words, a very good fit.

Is Matt Smith still going to be the Doctor in 2011? or is that still to be confirmed?
I have ordered The graveyard book & Neverwhere to read, and will hopefully love his episode in 2011 :)

Nothing official has been said, but there are rumors of a three year deal. I think Matt will still be the Doctor next year. Unless the audience doesn't take to him.

This message is for all the Davros lovers (i'm Davros's no 1 fan). He isn't dead. You want proof? Well, I'll give you some. In Doctor Who Confidential (Journey's End) Russel T Davies said that he wasn't the writer who wanted to kill Davros off. That's why they didn't show him dying. There's your proof.

I think Matt will stay for about three years. I hated Eccleston, because he was just so rude and immature and overall WIERD. He said “Shut up!” loads, in that annoying accent of his. I'm glad he only did one series, because he was the worst doctor ever. And then David came along, and lightened up Doctor Who for me. He was brilliant, funny, a good actor, it was sad he left. I'll miss you David. And here comes Matt Smith! An amazing first scene! Can't wait for The Eleventh Hour to air. And then The Beast Below, and after that, Victory Of The Daleks. But, the finale will be the best episode of all in the series. Can't wait for the “silent menace” to come, and the fantastic Sillurians! Go Series Five!
