In 2006, the BBC announced The Sarah Jane Adventures. A spin-off series created by Russell T Davies starring Doctor Who character Sarah Jane Smith played by Elizabeth Sladen.

Set in present-day West London,13-year-old neighbour Maria (Yasmin Paige) forms an unlikely alliance with investigative journalist Sarah Jane to fight evil alien forces at work in Britain.

The ‘pilot’ episode, Invasion of the Bane was broadcast on New Years Day 2007. A ten part series followed on the 24th September 2007.

SARAH JANE SMITH (Elizabeth Sladen) Character Profile: An old friend and companion of the Doctor. Sarah Jane has traveled the universe, solving mysteries, tackling monsters and fighting alien foe all the way.
MARIA JACKSON (Yasmin Paige) Character Profile: A 13-year-old girl who lives on Bannerman Road. After a chance encounter with Sarah Jane and an friendly alien, her eyes are opened to a new world of opportunity, mystery and adventure.
LUKE SMITH (Thomas Knight) Character Profile: Luke is the super intelligent adoptive son of Sarah Jane Smith, and a creation of an alien species called the Bane.
CLYDE LANGER (Daniel Anthony) Character Profile: Clyde Langer is the new cool kid on the block. He becomes friends with Maria and Luke after helping to stop an alien invasion at their school.
RANI CHANDRA (Anjli Mohindra) Character Profile: 15, inquisitive, smart and sassy. Wants to be a journalist, a sort of junior Sarah Jane, and thus idolises Sarah Jane just a little and in return, Sarah Jane takes her happily on her investigations.
