Death of the Doctor spoilers!

So, if you missed it, this is the moment from The Sarah Jane Adventures where the Doctor tells Clyde he can regenerate 507 times…

That’s it. No fancy explanation, no wibbly wobbly timey wimey messing around, just a simple throwaway line.

With the Doctor already on his eleventh incarnation, we knew this would have to be addressed in the not too distant future. But it’s slightly disappointing that a storyline opportunity has been, seemingly, scuppered. If that’s the last we ever hear of it, anyway.

It also seems a bit strange that this potentially significant development happens in a spin-off rather than the parent show, given that not every Doctor Who fan watches The Sarah Jane Adventures.

With the tone of the scene though, we can’t rule out the possibility that the Doctor is just lying or having a bit of a laugh (along with Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat, no doubt).

At least we now know exactly what Moffat meant when he said back in April, “It’s addressed in a very, very cheeky way by an old friend of mine”.

What do you guys think though?

Update: This is what Russell T Davies had to say about it when asked by SFX.

507 – I could not resist! I was hooting. It’ll never stick, though. That 13 lives is stuck in people’s heads. It is, isn’t it funny? Yet they only said 13 once or twice.

There’s a fascinating academic study to be made out of how some facts stick and some don’t – how Jon Pertwee’s Doctor could say he was thousands of years old, and no-one listens to that, and yet someone once says he’s only got thirteen lives, and it becomes lore. It’s really interesting, I think. That’s why I’m quite serious that that 507 thing won’t stick, because the 13 is too deeply ingrained in the public consciousness. But how? How did that get there? It’s fascinating, it’s really weird. Anyway, that’ll be my book in my retirement!

Old friends fight together to make one last stand against the sinister Shansheeth. But with Clyde and Rani trapped in terrible danger, Sarah Jane and Jo Grant realise their worst fears – their friendship with the Doctor might be the very thing that dooms them. Death of the Doctor: Part 2 airs tomorrow at 5.15pm on the CBBC channel. Watch the trailer below.

We will be running a poll tomorrow for you to rate the story. In the meantime, feel free to leave your thoughts on part one in the comments below.

The wait is almost over. The Doctor is back on our TV screens later today for the first time since June. Although it’s not in Doctor Who this time, but rather an appearance in The Sarah Jane Adventures.

For fans of classic Who there’s another treat in store as former companion Jo Grant (Katy Manning) also returns.

In Death of the Doctor, the Doctor is declared dead and old companions Sarah Jane and Jo Grant (Katy Manning) join forces to discover the truth.

Note, if you can’t catch the first showing, the episode is repeated on Wednesday at 4:30pm on BBC1.

Contained within this video are two new clips from Death of the Doctor shown on CBBC yesterday. Only two days to go…

Russell T Davies has explained that Jo Grant wasn’t the only companion he wanted to bring back in The Sarah Jane Adventures story Death of the Doctor.

“[Jo Grant] wasn’t always there – the idea of the Doctor came first. But the more we explored the idea of seeing his funeral – his real, genuine, proper funeral, come the day he dies – then it just seemed odd that no one from his past came along”, he says in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine.

“Believe me, if we’d have had the budget, I’d have packed the halls with every single ex-companion, I’d have even found a way to pluck Romana out of E-Space!”

Davies also suggested another appearance by the Doctor is unlikely in Series 5: “It’ll have to be different next year, you’ve got to keep moving on. I wonder…Maybe it’s time we really did The Two Ranis.”

Death of the Doctor airs Monday at 5.15pm on the CBBC channel.

When the Doctor is declared dead, old companions Sarah Jane and Jo Grant meet for the very first time, and join forces to discover the truth. As an interstellar conspiracy gathers around UNIT HQ, Clyde finds that he holds the fate of the Time Lord in his hand – quite literally! Below is the ‘next time’ trailer.

Here’s another trailer with more clips:

And a clip from a few weeks back in case you missed it.

Death of the Doctor airs next Monday at 5.15pm on the CBBC channel.

Note: pics do contain spoilers!

Death of the Doctor airs next Monday 25th at 5.15pm on the CBBC channel.

Just last week rumours suggested that the Doctor Who regeneration limit would be addressed in the fourth series of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

The Guardian now claims that the limit won’t just be extended, but removed entirely in a throwaway line of dialogue!

Says their article (Death of the Doctor spoilers),

Fans have always thought that the 13th doctor would be the last, thanks to a 1976 Doctor Who episode, The Deadly Assassin revealing for the first time the regeneration limit. But a passing comment in a children’s television programme later this month is set to rewrite history and cast the Doctor, iconic hero of the world’s most successful and longest-running science fiction series, as immortal.

The moment comes in the CBBC spin-off show, The Sarah Jane Adventures, which stars former companion Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. Matt Smith, who plays the current Doctor Who, guest stars in a two-part episode called The Death of the Doctor, to be screened on October 25 and 26. While the Doctor and Clyde Langer, played by Daniel Anthony, are in the process of outwitting spooky vulture undertakers the Shansheeth, Clyde asks how many times he can regenerate. The Doctor indicates that there is no limit. The action continues.

However, another source at last night’s Death of the Doctor screening revealed the Doctor actually says he can regenerate 507 times. So there’s still a limitation, just a rather large one!

Either way, I think we now know what Steven Moffat meant when he said, “[The regeneration limit] is addressed in a very, very cheeky way by an old friend of mine”.

We have some spoilers for The Sarah Jane Adventures courtesy of The List which reveals what is really going on in Death of the Doctor.

Sarah Jane and Jo Grant pair up to rescue The Doctor after they are tricked into believing he has been killed, and invited to his funeral.

But the pair quickly realise the ceremony is a trap, and learn that a group of aliens called The Shansheeth have captured the Tardis, leaving the Time Lord stranded on a planet.

These vulture-like aliens then attempt to use a “memory weave” to connect with the pair’s brains and past thoughts, and learn how to unlock the time-travelling machine through their past experiences with The Doctor.

As they reminisce, viewers of the show will watch video flashbacks of previous Time Lords William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, whilst their iconic nemeses The Daleks, Sea Devils, Sontarans and Davros also make a return.

Death of the Doctor airs Monday 25th October at 5.15pm on the CBBC channel.

Long time readers may remember earlier in the year Steven Moffat said that the Doctor Who regeneration limit (by which Timelord can regenerate twelve times before finally dying) would be addressed in future.

Well, it looks as though we won’t have to wait long to see the issue put to rest. According to Digital Spy it will finally get resolved in Series 4 of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

One of their teasers for story Death of the Doctor reveals: “The Doctor doesn’t have to be white. And he can regenerate more than 12 times -- a lot more!”

We’ll just have to wait and see exactly what that means when the two-part story airs in a few weeks.

To tide us over here’s a new trailer (different from the one posted earlier) which shows lots more clips and Sarah Jane’s reaction to meeting the Eleventh Doctor for the first time.
