It’s been a while since we’ve had a Doctor Who rumour from the The Daily Star. Today they are reporting that one of Series 7′s episodes will have the outrageous title of Dinosaurs On A Spaceship.
They state:
DOCTOR WHO chiefs are making their own version of the blockbuster Snakes On A Plane called Dinosaurs On A Spaceship.
BBC bosses have decided to base an episode of the new series on the 2006 movie starring Samuel L Jackson in which hundreds of serpents cause terror aboard a flight.
In the sci-fi show, the Doctor (Matt Smith, 29) and companions Amy and Rory (Karen Gillan, 24, and Arthur Darvill, 28) land on a spaceship. They are unaware that lurking inside the craft are a bunch of prehistoric monsters including a T-Rex, stegosaurus, raptor and pterodactyl.
A source said: “When we said we had a monster series lined up, we meant it.
“This will be a whopper of an episode.”
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard dinosaurs will make an appearance this series. Back in March, there were reports of animatronics being prepped, and then there was that similar sounding title from the usually unreliable IMDB.
It’s hard to know what to make of this one. We know Steven Moffat is pushing for more in-your-face titles like Let’s Kill Hitler, so it’s a possibility. We also know that episode 2 will be called [Spoilers] on a [Spoiler], so this could fit. Although all the footage we’ve seen on that so far looks like it’s set in ancient Egypt. But we’ll just have to wait and see…
The Star close their report with this:
There will also be the annual Christmas Day special. The episode, rumoured to be a ghost story, will mark the arrival of the Doc’s new companion Jenna Louise Coleman, 25.
Steven Moffat has spoken to Digital Spy about his recent BAFTA award. He moves on to talk about Doctor Who, including the scheduling change for Series 7, the new companion and trying to keep secrets.
On the scheduling change this year:
“I don’t know, on this occasion, that the thinking particularly came from me, actually. I’ve always been open to anything that shakes [the series] up. I think that decision actually came from the BBC.
“But I’ve been well up for anything that we can do to shake up the transmission pattern, the way we deliver it to the audience and how long we make the audience wait, simply because that makes Doctor Who an event piece.
“The more Doctor Who becomes a perennial, the faster it starts to die. You’ve got to shake it up, you’ve got to keep people on edge and wondering when it will come back.
“Sherlock is the prime example, as far as that goes. Sherlock almost exists on starving its audience. By the time it came back this year, Sherlock was like a rock star re-entering the building!
“So keeping Doctor Who as an event, and never making people feel, ‘Oh, it’s lovely, reliable old Doctor Who – it’ll be on about this time, at that time of year’. Once you start to do that, just slowly, it becomes like any much-loved ornament in your house – ultimately invisible. And I don’t want that to ever be the case.”
On when we will learn who Jenna-Louise Coleman is playing:
“Christmas! But don’t expect to learn everything! We’ve got a good story and there are some proper legitimate surprises in it. I’m excited by it. I think we’re going to do some fun stuff.”
On trying to keep the new companion’s identity a secret:
“We can’t really contain everything, because people will crawl all over us with cameras and sneak views of scripts and call-sheets. Something will get out. But we’ve been fairly sly, so let’s wait and see.
“Again, a lot of the audience that I talk to specifically avoid any spoilers and I’m absolutely certain they have a better experience of the show. As I’ve always said, if I could make it on the dark side of the moon, I would, but you can’t do these things.
“I got pilloried by somebody at some deep level of naivety about the industry – they were angry that I’d revealed the fact that Amy and Rory were even going to leave! But y’know, actor’s agents really do have to advertise their client’s availability – I had no choice but to announce they were going to leave. But in an ideal world, you wouldn’t even do that.”
Moffat also confirmed that plans for the 50th anniversary had began earlier in the week.
Karen Gillan has spoken about filming Doctor Who for the final time.
Speaking to the Daily Record, she explained: “It was a weird, serene day where everyone was feeling it. We don’t film in chronological order so the last shot we filmed was me, Matt and Arthur going into the TARDIS. Then Matt closed the door for the last time and we were in darkness.
“We hugged and started crying. It was kind of tears of happiness. It was a feeling of ‘Look at what we’ve done’. It was lovely.”
Karen added: “I didn’t get to keep any Pond stuff because everything related to Doctor Who goes into exhibitions. But I might have taken a little special something from the TARDIS.”
She later admitted: “[It was] a pair of binoculars. They look really weird in my house, just sitting there.”
Next up for Karen is a leading role in the film, Not Another Happy Ending, which begins shooting in July.
We have some intriguing story details for the fourth episode of Doctor Who Series 7.
We can’t be sure how big these spoilers are, so proceed at your own risk.
SPOILER: show

Today, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill filmed their final ever scenes for Doctor Who…

Doctor Who TV would just like to take a moment to say goodbye to Karen and Arthur and wish them the best of luck in the future.
We won’t get to see their exit from the show until later this year, of course, so we still have 5 episodes until their proper on screen farewell.
As filming continued on Doctor Who Series 7 this past week, some more story details and casting have emerged for the fourth episode of the run.
This post may contain some minor spoilers.
- In casting, it was revealed veteran British actor Steven Berkoff (pictured, recently seen in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) will have a role. His character is believed to be called Mr Shanks
- Ruthie Henshall also possibly hinted at a role as a baddie
- When the Doctor arrives, it’s Amy and Rory’s wedding anniversary and to celebrate they are having a summer BBQ
- Rory’s father Brian (Mark Williams) is there in a hat and Hawaiian shirt
- Lots more black cubes scattered everywhere
- One scene sees the Doctor up a ladder clearing cubes from the gutter of a conservatory
- Another involves the Doctor working on a car ripping things out of the engine
- The Doctor also has another kickabout
- Other filming locations have included: Neath Abbey (used last year in The Rebel Flesh) and St Cadoc’s Hospital (used in The Eleventh Hour)
Filming on the episode will wrap shortly with Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill shooting their final ever scenes today.
Have we received a big clue on when Series 7 of Doctor Who will finally hit our screens this year?
The Guardian reports that the opening episode of the seventh series is to be screened at the 2012 Edinburgh International Television Festival this August.
The opener will be showing at the festival which takes place 23-25th August. Looking back to last year’s schedule, a BBC broadcast shortly after seems likely.
Last year, Let’s Kill Hitler was shown at the same festival on 26th August. The episode premiered on BBC1 the next day. If the same thing were to happen this year, then we could be looking at Saturday 25th August, which is a bank holiday weekend.
It’s earlier than expected and does go against Steven Moffat previously stating the show would “straddle over Christmas”, but scheduling can change.
Of course, if the show does return in August, it opens up the question of whether they will only show the first 5 episodes…
Filming on the fourth episode of Doctor Who Series 7 continued yesterday and there were some strange goings on down Bute Esplanade in Cardiff.
This post may contain mild spoilers.
Doctor Who’s executive producer Caroline Skinner gave an little update on Series 7 in the new issue of Doctor Who Magazine.
Skinner confirms that the Russell T Davies-owned Dalek (pictured) he loaned for filming on the opener has a “a starring role in the climax.”
She moves on to talk about the second episode which is being written by Chris Chibnall. Skinner says it has “the best episode title ever” and will be “the biggest VFX episode of the series”.
Skinner also dropped a few hints on Chibnall’s other story this series, the fourth episode currently shooting and believed to be titled (or have the working title of) Cubed. Also, the penultimate episode to feature Amy and Rory.
She describes the episode as, “a massive, rollercoaster ride of a sci-fi story.”
“It’s all about Amy and Rory’s relationship – full of warmth, love and a celebration of their time on the show. But don’t be fooled. Chris will scare you to bits with this episode!”
“It’s also the last one we’ll shoot with Arthur and Karen in Cardiff. Words cannot describe how epic this moment is.”
Issue 447 of Doctor Who Magazine features a lengthy interview with Steven Moffat and he offers a few hints and teasers on Series 7 and beyond. Here’s some highlights we’ve complied:
- Rory and Amy are no longer regular travelers with the Doctor: “If he thinks he needs them, he just pops in on them,” but, “Each time they’ll get a little older.”
- Moffat on killing off companions: “Even if I don’t think I’ll do it…maybe I will do it!”
- Moffat ponders, “If we did a UNIT story, would Martha be there?”
- The Special Weapons Dalek will definitely appear in the opener
- Moffat reiterates that the New Paradigm Daleks are an “officer class”
- Can the question “Doctor Who?” be answered? “Wait and see”
- We will find out exactly what Trenzalore is all about
- “The Fall of the Eleventh” will also be resolved (perhaps not in Series 7 though)
- Moffat is very keen that the order of the episodes can be swapped around this time
- There will still be a story arc, but it will be “the opposite” of Series 6
- Even though he said no more two-parters, they are still possible if the story requires them
- Jenna-Louise’s companion will be different to the others and is “going to be a shock”
- Filming will continue throughout the rest of 2012 and further into 2013 and beyond

As anyone who has followed filming so far will know, the story features mysterious
