Will David Tennant’s 14th Doctor Return? RTD Has No Plans (Yet)
In last weekend’s “The Giggle”, fans witnessed the first ever bi-generation, which ultimately resulted in David Tennant’s Fourteenth Doctor ‘retiring’ to Earth, while Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor ventured off in his TARDIS.
For those hoping this might mean a quick return of the Fourteenth Doctor, Russell T Davies has some disappointing news – there are currently no plans.
During a Q&A session following the premiere of the Christmas special, Davies reportedly said: “Sorry, it’s the age of Ncuti now – it’s ‘David who?”’
He then added: “No plans, genuinely, yet, because it’s a busy TARDIS – these two [Gatwa and Millie Gibson] are gonna just sail across the universe and capture your heart, so it’s time to look at these two.”
Of course, this won’t stop fans from speculating. Why introduce a bi-generation if there’s no further exploration of this unique scenario, like a potential future team-up?
Further, Davies himself has already planted the idea of a ‘Doctorverse’. Considering Disney’s penchant for crossover events, it makes you wonder if Tennant (and maybe other Doctors too) are being saved for something, or a rainy day…
