YOUR Verdict on “The Giggle” – Good, but Not a Game Changer
It’s time to reveal DWTV’s poll results for the third 60th anniversary special, “The Giggle”, as voted for by you over the last week or so.
“The Giggle”: Score Breakdown
As always, we asked you to rate the episode on a scale from 1 to 10. We then took an average.
- Several thousand of you voted, and the average score was 7.64. According to the Doctor Who TV score guide, this indicates the episode was generally considered to be in the “good” range.
- This leaves “The Giggle” as the 70th highest-rated episode of the whole revival (according to the DWTV ranking polls taken in 2018). Specifically, it falls between “Amy’s Choice ” (7.63) and “The Fires of Pompeii” (7.65).
- Among the 34 Doctor Who stories written by Davies so far, including those with co-writer credits, “The Giggle” is ranked 16th. This positions it right above “Wild Blue Yonder” around the middle of his contributions.
- The standard deviation – which is our measure of how divisive an episode is – was 2.65. DWTV considers episodes over 2 as “very divisive”. This increased from the second special, but was not quite as divisive as the first.
- Overall: In a similar story to the last episode, it’s another slight improvement. It’s a shame it didn’t do enough to break the 8 threshold again. Also, if we compare to the 50th anniversary, these specials have ultimately come up a bit short.
