Doctor Who: Evacuation Earth Reviewed
Doctor Who: Evacuation Earth is out today for the Nintendo DS. It’s the first major Doctor Who game to hit consoles in a while and if you haven’t already picked it up, you may be wondering if it’s worth getting (if you can stop playing Call of Duty: Black Ops, that is).
While we haven’t been able to play it yet, the guys at Official Nintendo Magazine have. Below are some choice quotes from their review.
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If this is true then Professor Layton must be blushing with the intensity of a bonfire just now, because Doctor Who DS is a blatant copy of his adventures.
Layton with Doctor Who characters doesn’t sound bad on paper but Evacuation Earth is much easier and anyone over 12 will breeze through the vast majority of its puzzles. It’s aimed at children, and while they’ll undoubtedly adore it, any older Doctor Who fans will be disappointed.
The script is well-written and has the same sense of humour as a Doctor Who episode.
As a children’s game, we can’t recommend this highly enough. It’s funny, it’s lengthy and it’ll test youngster’s logic skills at the same time. But any Doctor Who fans of secondary school age or older are more likely to feel left out.
So it seems okay, provided you are young enough. If anyone else has played it, we’d like to hear your own thoughts in the comments.
Doctor Who: Evacuation Earth is out now. The Wii game, Return to Earth, is out next Friday.
