Dark Water TV Trailer Breakdown
Onto the publicity pictures and we see Missy and the Doctor indulging in each other’s company on the steps of St. Pauls Cathedral. The Doctor seems both shocked and alarmed while Missy takes on a somewhat apathetic approach. Most likely this is their reaction to the Cybermen emerging from the cathedral that filming revealed earlier in the year.
Speaking of, excuse me while I go die of nostalgia and reminiscence! The Cybermen are seen here mimicking one of the most memorable moments from Doctor Who’s history marching out of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. Filming pictures and press releases revealed this iconic re-enactment earlier in the year.
Reoccurring character Mr Danny Shirt-Colour (portrayed by Samuel Anderson) returns in the finale and receives what rationally would be a phone call from Clara – however it could easily be Moffat informing him of his character’s future (or possibly lack of?) in Series 9.
Curiously, the public seem to posing with and relishing in the Cybermen’s sudden appearances. Surely they must remember the invasion days of old… There seems to be some CRACKS in Moffat’s story-telling (See what I did there!). The Doctor’s expression matches our own confusion – could the next few pictures shed some light on the situation?
Judging by both the staging, lighting and “fourth wall breaking perspectives” of the next few pictures – it seems to me that Missy and her distressingly camp assistant Seb, portrayed by Chris Addison, may be starring in some kind of advertisement. Re-assessing what we know about the actions of the sinister 3W Corporation: “Death is not an end” promises the organisation. Could the 3W be marketing the Cybermen to the world? Introducing them as novelty mascots before they invade the planet? Only time will tell
Forget your troubles
Come on get happy
You better chase all you cares away
Shout hallelujah
Come on get happy
Get ready for the judgment day
The sun is shining
Come on get happy
The lord is waiting to take your hand
Shout hallelujah
Come on get happy
We’re going to the promised land
We’re heading across the river
Wash your sins away in the tide
It’s all so peaceful on the other side
Clara and the Doctor seek an audience with the suspicious Dr Chang, portrayed by Andrew Leung. Notice the piece of Alien Technology located on his desk. It’s fairly safe to assume Dr Chang is one of Seb’s and Missy’s co-workers at the divine 3W Organisation. Could it be his “formula” promising immortal capabilities?
This is a really interesting shot. Obviously it’s taken from the scene where Clara Oswald blatantly and casually informs an approaching Cyberman that she is not in fact Clara Oswald at all… That Clara Oswald has never existed! What is curious however is that the scene seems to be a continuation from the new footage from the TV Trailer where the Doctor makes false assumptions about humanities’ mortality. So the questions remain: Where is the Doctor? What is Miss Oswald up? Are the Cybermen in fact converting the long dead? And what is up with the Yellow Tetris board in the background?!
And there we have it! The second peek at what looks to be a totally game changing series events for Doctor Who history. Missy is about to come face to face with the Doctor, and an impossible choice is looming. This Saturday, 1 November at 8.15pm on BBC1.
