10 Anticipated Death in Heaven Moments
Guest contributor Ethan John shares ten moments he is most anticipating from the Series 8 finale
Oh dear Lord! Death in Heaven draws ever closer and to help lessen the wait I’d thought I’d share with you the top 10 scenes I am eagerly anticipating the most. Remember, if you somehow still haven’t seen Dark Water yet, I advise you to keep away as spoilers are ahead.
10. Osgood’s return
Although a small point, I’m extremely pleased to be seeing Ingrid Oliver appearing on Doctor Who once again. Ingrid herself is an incredible actor. Osgood’s character is very much like that of a companion (hint hint, Moffat!) and I can’t wait to see her comeback and her reaction to a new Doctor – not only that, but a new, darker Doctor. And I love the new additions to her Doctor inspired clothing, a nice nod back to Matt Smith and David Tennant – Bow ties are cool!
9. Cyber Army of the Dead
It’s going to be rather interesting to see the public’s reactions when the seemingly harmless metal men turn against them – no more selfies! However, it’ll be great to see the sheer amount and power of the Cybermen – presumably all the dead of mankind – as a seemingly unstoppable army! And with that, part of me wonders whether we’ll be seeing any old faces back from the grave upgraded…
8. The Master & the Doctor
I can’t wait to see further reactions of the Doctor to Missy revealing herself as the new Master. This is going to be fascinating to see, not only to the Master returning, but the Master regenerated into a woman! And not to mention the on/off flirting that may bring. I think it’ll be pretty funny to see the Doctor’s actions to that!
7. An explanation to the Master’s comeback
I’m sure many fans are theorising as I speak, and I am looking forward to finding out how the Master survived and escaped Gallifrey. Does this mean that Gallifrey is no longer lost? I’m also hoping for a regeneration scene from John Simm to Michelle Gomez, this would be wonderful and a return of Simm would be pure gold.
6. UNIT’s reaction to Capaldi’s Doctor
This will certainly be interesting. Especially as for UNIT at least, they only met Matt Smith’s Doctor very recently. I’m also rather hyped for Kate, the Mistress and the Doctor meeting simultaneously, it will certainly have a nostalgic vibe to it, bringing back memories of UNIT and the Master in Classic Who.
5. Danny and the boy
I’m really hoping to see some speech from the boy, and more interaction. I’m also curious on whether the boy will forgive Danny, as right now it rather seems like he is going to persuade Danny not to press delete. I rather suspect that the boy may have been converted, and his “soul” remains – maybe knowing Danny will be converted will bring about forgiveness from him?
4. Clara confronting and escaping Skarosa
This will be exciting – especially with the trailer line, “I’m not Clara Oswald. Clara Oswald has never existed!” This brings many questions up – Is Clara Oswald an “illusion” or is she simply bluffing to escape Skarosa? If she isn’t real, how, and why!? And if she’s lying, why and how does the Cyberman believe her? I don’t think a Cyberman would be fooled by that.
3. Kate confronting Missy
Now this is a scene I am really pumped for. This is very reminiscent of the classic series – a Lethbridge-Stewart and the Master confronting each other! And from, the trailer, it appears as though we may (fingers crossed) get a good fight between Missy and Kate! If we do, I know who I’ll be cheering for – do your Dad proud, Kate!
2. Danny and Clara reunited
This one is really going to pull at the heartstrings! The sheer thought of losing someone so close to you and then being reunited after death is so intense. I also believe that one of them may be forced to give up the other, for good. If this is true, I will certainly be sad to say goodbye to them – presumably Danny. I have a sneaking suspicion that Clara may go to the lengths of doing the unthinkable – committing suicide to be with Danny. However, if the pregnancy theory is true, this seems unlikely and is also very out of character. We have also seen Orson Pink, suggesting Danny and Clara will stay together and somehow get out of this. Just remember that, to quote Clara recently, time can be rewritten…
And at number one…
1. Scary Cybermen take flight
This is in my opinion truly worthy to take place at number one. Ever since New Who, I think the Cybermen haven’t been half as scary as they could be – or were. Although we have had several Cybermen episodes in New Who, I always think they were lacking that sense of fear and the human element to them.
This finale looks completely different. For starters, their voices are incredible and I feel this will add a whole new level of fear to them. Instead of the somewhat high pitched, “droney”, and overly robotic voice, they now have a much deeper, darker voice which really captures you. I also generally feel that they will actually scare you, mainly down to the darker storyline. I think so far, all the other Cybermen stories of New Who are rather weak compared to the classics. Death In Heaven is going to be a very strong Cyberman episode, especially seeing as it also features the Master returning and working with them.
Finally, the Cybermen are going to do the impossible – fly. I think, well, I know, that this will be insanely popular with practically all Whovians alike. This is also, in my opinion, just what the Cybermen needed to be returned to their former glory. I think the idea of it – the only way to truly escape a Cyberman was by taking to the air – and now Moffat has gone and “deleted” that aspect of them which kept them from their true potential in New Who. That bone chilling scene on the plane will be fascinating, but it’s certainly a nice nod back to the Brigadier, with “Oh dear Lord!”
All in all, I am truly excited for Death in Heaven and I think it promises to be a real showstopper, and will hopefully answer the burning questions on our mind. Thank you for reading and share your own most anticipated moments in the comments below!
