Why The Queen Should Star in Doctor Who

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “We’ve already seen the Queen in Doctor Who! She appeared when evacuating Buckingham Palace in Voyage of the Damned!” However, I’m not talking about an actress portraying the Queen on Doctor Who. I’m talking about Her Majesty, The Queen herself, appearing in our beloved television show.
How prestigious of an honour would it be if Queen Elizabeth II were to appear on Doctor Who? What an amazing opportunity it would be for the show to work with such a wonderful woman. And so, in honour of The Queen becoming the longest reining monarch in British History today, I present to you the reasons why The Queen should star in Doctor Who!
She is an undercover Doctor Who fan herself
That’s right. Her Majesty is in fact a huge Doctor Who fan. In fact, the entire Royal Family is. She even has the complete set of Doctor Who DVDs! How could such an opportunity be passed up to star The Queen in an episode of one of her favourite shows? I’m sure it could easily be arranged to have her appear on set for a day or two to film her scenes. How amazing would it be to not just give the Queen a tour of the set, but to actually STAR on the set? With The Queen being a major Whovian, this opportunity would surely be beneficial for not just the cast and crew of the show, but for her as well. Another once-in-a-lifetime experience for the Queen to cherish in her memories.
The Queen is in fact the longest reigning monarch in British history. To honour this major milestone and her strong legacy, how could the crew of Doctor Who not even attempt to try for an opportunity like this to take place? To miss such a marvellous opportunity would just simply be awful. To have the most famous, influential fan of Doctor Who to step through the TARDIS doors on screen would serve as one of the most iconic moments of Doctor Who in its entire life; past and future. Being such a huge fan, she would have such great fun, I’m sure, and would certainly be a brilliant experience for Her Majesty, and the cast and crew.
She would be the biggest guest star in the history of the show
Doctor Who has had a plethora of guest stars, ranging from all sorts of places. The show has had singers Kylie Minogue and Foxes appear, all the way to stars such as Sir Michael Gambon, opera singer Katherine Jenkins, Dame Diana Rigg, and if we want to include the Classic Series, a certain Fawlty comedian, John Cleese, even made an appearance. But to have Her Majesty, The Queen on the show would prove to be the most significant guest appearance the show has ever had, and possibly may EVER have. With the wide range of guest stars to appear on the show, this casting choice may prove to be the most logical choice of all!
The addition of The Queen in the long list of Guest Appearances in the show would only prove beneficial for the show and all parties involved. This episode starring her would in fact gain tremendous publicity, and by having such a unique guest star, it might even entice more people to watch the episode and possibly even the rest of the series if they feel so inclined. And so, coinciding with the fact that she is about to become the longest reigning monarch in British history, and the fact that she is a fan of the show herself, this seems almost too perfect of an opportunity to pass up, and have the biggest guest star in the history of the show to step through those TARDIS doors on screen.
How could she be included on the show?
Now, it is one thing saying she should appear on the show, but it’s another thing to actually present a few ideas as to HOW she could be included on the show.
As the Doctor has already had quite a number of encounters with the Royal Family (some more dangerous than others), this episode would certainly allow for an addressing of all the in-jokes relating to the relationship the Doctor has with the family. Imagine the Queen putting on her grumpiest face and telling the Doctor off for mocking Queen Victoria’s use of the phrase “I am not amused!” Hilarity would surely ensue from this encounter with the Queen and the the Doctor.
One of the biggest connections between the Doctor and the Royal Family would definitely be the episode Tooth and Claw. In this episode, it is heavily assumed that Queen Victoria was bitten by a werewolf, and as a result of that, all her descendants are in fact werewolves. The Queen, being Queen Victoria’s great great granddaughter, would surely be affected by this, and so what an incredible episode it would be if it served as a continuation of sorts of Tooth and Claw, where the ramifications of the werewolf bite are explored. If it was possible to not only have just Queen Elizabeth II star in it, but other members of the Royal Family, it would allow for an adventure in which the Doctor would not only have to defend Britain from a family of werewolves, but also whilst doing this, keep it as quiet as possible so the people of Britain and the rest of the world don’t find out about their secret. Hopefully the episode would end with the Doctor curing them, but who knows? With the right writing, and the right directing, this episode could be brilliant.
The episode could possibly aired as a Queen’s birthday special, so it wouldn’t have to necessarily be a part of a season, but could be a one off, special adventure to celebrate the Queen’s birthday. We’ve had a Christmas Special. We’ve had an Easter Special (of sorts). Why not a Queen’s birthday special?
As a fan of the show, Her Majesty, the Queen should definitely star in our beloved Doctor Who. It would be such a fun adventure, and who wouldn’t want to see the Queen give the Doctor a telling off or two?
