The publicity for Doctor Who Series 9 is well and truly kicking off and the first batch of online previews reveal lots of new info. Here’s some highlights:

Episode 1 & 2
- When we start Clara is still very busy at Coal Hill School
- Missy and the Doctor are “sort of on the same side.”
- Daleks are not the only monster. Also features a snake creature
- Part one ends on a massive cliffhanger, so no cinema showing
Episode 5 & 6
- Maisie Williams will be very different in each episode. She has to cover quite a range
Episode 7 & 8
- Titled: “Invasion of the Zygons” / “Inversion of the Zygons”
- Quite a dark story. You’ll see some “fundamentalist arguments” reflecting current events
- Osgood “could well be companion,” teases Capaldi, “We’re playing around with a lot of offers…”
- Ingrid Oliver says the Doctor asks if Osgood is the real one and “I don’t tell him the answer to that…”
- Features a Zygon chase around a supermarket and Osgood in New Mexico
- “Five Rounds Rapid” returns
Episode 9
- A special story that will feature only old phone and camcorder footage showing the Time Lord’s followers filming their attempts to fight a creature, Doctor Who does “Cloverfield”
- Executive producer Brian Minchin teased: “We’re considering not even having opening titles and just running the footage.”
Episode 10
- “Invasion of invisible streets” (not the title).
Episode 11
- An episode which features just Capaldi as the Doctor, on his own.
Episode 12
- Capaldi suggested that the series will not end happily: “He is aware darkness will fall.”
- “The Doctor & Clara can’t have a good time for too long. They have to pay for it.”
Other
- Capaldi says some stories could be considered three-parters
- The Judoon and the Hath will be making a return.
