R.I.P. John Hurt (1940-2017)

Doctor Who TV would like to pay our deepest respects to Sir John Hurt, who passed away on Wednesday 25 January 2016.

Hurt needs no introduction with an acting career spanning decades. His role as the War Doctor during the 50th anniversary celebrations in 2013 was just one of those, unforgettable as it was.

His death came just days after his 77th birthday, following a battle with pancreatic cancer. The legendary actor made news of his illness public shortly after being diagnosed in 2015.

At the time Hurt said: “I can’t say I worry about mortality, but it’s impossible to get to my age and not have a little contemplation of it. We’re all just passing time, and occupy our chair very briefly.”
