Your Number One Doctor Revealed – 2019 Face-Off Results
Earlier this year, DWTV began a tournament of face-offs seeking to find your number one Doctor. After two months of voting, 27 battles and over 100,000 votes, we can now at last reveal the results.
The Cup
As previously stated, we created a double-elimination tournament bracket, and you can see above how the whole thing played out.
The seeding order was decided based upon the results of the February poll, where we asked you to vote for which Doctor you loved the most. Percentages represent those initial results.
As we mentioned during voting, due to this being a 14 competitor tournament instead of 16, both Matt Smith and David Tennant was given a bye as they were the top two highest seeded.
Individual Results
Here are the results of all 27 battles:
The Final
The Winner – David Tennant
So, there we have it! David Tennant is the winner. Again!
Yes, we know it’s not at all a surprise given this marks a hat-trick win for the Tenth Doctor on tournaments of a similar nature on DWTV – first in 2013, second in 2015, and now this year’s. Not to mention all those across the web.
However, while this may have seemed an inevitability, Tennant’s journey to the top this time was a bit more unconventional at least. If the tournament had ended after one knockout as in past cups, Tennant actually would be out after losing to Tom Baker. It was only thanks to the nature of this tournament offering a second lifeline that Tennant could prevail by working his way through the Defeated Bracket and this time beating Baker, twice.
Outside of the top two, both Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi also performed very well. Less so, our current Doctor Jodie Whittaker. She was eliminated after just two battles, and one of them was against Colin Baker, who has traditionally always placed last. Ouch! There’s always next time…
Thanks for all your votes, and congrats to David Tennant!
