YOUR Verdict on “The Vanquishers” – Disastrous
It’s time to reveal DWTV’s poll results for the sixth episode of Series 13, “The Vanquishers”, as voted for by you over the last week or so.
“The Vanquishers”: Score Breakdown
As always, we asked you to rate the episode on a scale from 1 to 10. We then took an average.
- A few thousand of you voted, and the average score was 4.56. According to the Doctor Who TV score guide, this indicates the episode was generally considered to be in the “below average” range.
- A score this low leaves “The Vanquishers” as the 2nd lowest rated episode of the whole revival (according to the DWTV ranking polls taken in 2018)! More specifically, it is situated between “Fear Her” (3.87) and “Love & Monsters” (4.57).
- This is the third episode of the Chibnall era to have a modal score of 1/10. The first was “Orphan 55,” the second was “The Timeless Children”.
- This is the second episode of the Chibnall era to go straight to the bottom 5. In total, the Chibnall era occupies 9 of the bottom 20 spots.
- The standard deviation – which is our measure for how divisive an episode is – was 2.81. Surprisingly, this is “only” the 6th most divisive episode of the Chibnall era.
- Overall: Oh dear… Unfortunately, “The Vanquishers” continues the trend of ending each series with a disappointing finale, but this result takes things to worrying new lows. What has likely contributed to such a staggeringly poor outcome is the fact that so much was riding on this year’s finale compared to others, and it seems to have disappointed almost everyone, even fans of the Chibnall era.
Series 13 Episode Ranking
The complete Series 13 episode ranking looks like this:
- 1. “Village of the Angels” – 7.79
- 2. “War of the Sontarans” – 7.06
- 3. “The Halloween Apocalypse” – 6.94
- 4. “Survivors of the Flux” – 5.92
- 5. “Once, Upon Time” – 5.68
- 6. “The Vanquishers” – 4.56
And so Series 13 ends with a final average score of 6.30. While this run started with a couple of above average scores, it didn’t take long for things to start dropping again. “Village of the Angels” gave the series a much-needed boost, but sadly the final two episodes would only go on to disappoint again.
Overall, this run was actually rated the lowest of Chibnall’s three series. And it also means Series 13 is now the lowest ranked series of the whole revival! The second lowest is Series 12, and the third Series 11.
Conclusion
Well, that’s it for another series, but not long after the Christmas break, we’ll be back to see how you rated the New Year’s special. Can this episode finally give the Chibnall era a big win, or will it find new lows to plunge…
