Jodie Whittaker Might Not Have a “Conventional” Regeneration
They quoted “a TV insider” as saying:
“The new team are considering a range of radical options in a bid to revive the flagging fortunes of a programme which is adored by millions around the world.
“That could see them take the decision to put space between Jodie’s time in the Tardis and that of her successor. Which means she may not be seen regenerating into the next doctor. She has already wrapped filming on this year’s special episodes, and a new Time Lord has yet to be revealed.”
Just a few days later, the director of Whittaker’s final episode, Jamie Magnus Stone, hinted that the Thirteenth Doctor’s regeneration may not be conventional.
Speaking with Radio Times, Magnus Stone said:
“I’m very fortunate in that I’m directing the last one of them. So I’m actually doing her regeneration.”
“Basically her last day of filming was most of the crew’s last day of filming as well. So it was all orchestrated to have this big, final last day. And we shot that last day for Jodie in story order. So we ended up on her last scene.”
“And we shot the last-ever scene in the TARDIS, and said goodbye to the TARDIS, and then there were some tears. And then we went out to film, basically, her regeneration. And the last shot that we did, I think, will be the last shot in the episode as well. So it was really nice to do things in sequence.”
It sounds like another TARDIS regeneration could be ruled out, which would be a first for the revival. It’s also interesting how Stone phrases “basically, her regeneration”. That could line up with the Sun’s earlier report.
Perhaps the rumoured change back into David Tennant may be the reason for needing to do things differently? Then again, it could just be because of the changing production teams and logistics of filming another actor later. But food for thought…
