RTD: Tennant is “Unashamedly” the 14th Doctor, Not a “Trick, Illusion or Flashback”

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has dismissed theories that David Tennant playing the next numbered incarnation is some sort of trick.

Davies makes it clear in issue 584 of Doctor Who Magazine (out now) that Tennant is “Unashamedly the Fourteenth [Doctor].”

He further explained: “I know how fandom works. A lot of people will be thinking, David’s not the real Doctor, he’s a trick, an illusion, a flashback. But no. He’s real.”

New Script Editor Scott Handcock added: “It’s funny, isn’t it? We have a regeneration with a familiar face, and yet it’s that familiarity which makes this process entirely different.

“We can’t just overlook that. This is something that hasn’t happened before. It’s unusual, mysterious, and the Doctor’s more than aware of that. Perhaps even troubled by it?”
