Paul McGann Spin-off Show Reportedly in the Works
The Mirror is reporting that Paul McGann will (finally) get an Eighth Doctor spin-off show.
Their article cites a source as saying:
“Russell [T Davies] likes the idea of bringing back McGann with his own set of episodes in the TARDIS.
Disney are on board as they want more original content and want to fully exploit the franchise as they know how big it could become.”
Other possible spin-offs include a series on UNIT, the Earth based military wing that works with the Doctor to defend the planet and a villain anthology.
They also cite a recent interview with McGann where he said:
“I finally got to be in an episode. The fans tell me that they hope there will be a chance of some more, that would be nice. I would be well up for it.”
The report concludes with:
A spokesman for Doctor Who declined to comment.
Fans have, of course, been asking for a McGann spin-off for a long, long time now. The whole movement really kicked into overdrive though a decade ago when he made a surprising and hugely popular return in the 50th anniversary mini-sode The Night of the Doctor.
We already know Davies has plans for spin-offs, although he recently seemed to imply that the previously rumoured UNIT spin-off, which The Mirror had also reported on, was not actually in development.
Davies said: “There are plans for spin-offs. Not the ones you read about online all the time.”
As always with rumours of this nature, take it with a grain (or two) of salt, and we’ll have to wait and see if anything comes of it this time…
