Quotes
The Doctor: “Here she is, Rose Tyler! She’s not the best I’ve ever had … a bit too blonde. Not to steady with her pins, shes like that. Just last week she stared into the heart of the Time Vortex – aged 57 years … but she’ll do!”
Jackie: “I’m 40!”
The Doctor: “Deluded … bless! Do you need anyone? She’s very good at tea! Well, I say very good, I mean not bad … well, I say not bad…”
Rose: “Doctor, they’ve got guns.”
The Doctor: “And I haven’t. Which makes me the better person, don’t you think? They can shoot me dead, but the moral high-ground is mine.”
Dalek: “Lifeforms detected! Exterminate! Exterminate! EXTERMINATE”
Rose: “You didn’t need to kill him!”
Black Dalek: “Neither did we need him alive.”
Dalek: “State your identity!”
Cyberman: “You will identify first.”
Dalek They: “Identify!”
Mickey: “It’s like Steven Hawking meets the speaking clock.”
Cyberman: “…Demands are illogical; you will modify!”
Dalek: “Daleks do not take orders!”
Cyberman: “You have identified as Daleks.”
Cyber-Leader: “Daleks be warned. You have declared war upon the Cybermen.”
Dalek: “This is not war. This is pest control.”
Cyberman: “You are proof.”
The Doctor: “Of what?”
Cyberman: “That emotions destroy you.”
The Doctor: “Yeah, I am. Mind you, I quite like hope. Hope’s a good emotion. And here it comes…”
Cyberman: “Our species are similar though your design is inelegant.”
Dalek Thay: “Daleks have no concept of elegance.”
Cyberman: “This is obvious.”
Doctor: “I’m burning up a sun just to say goodbye.”
The Doctor: “Here you are, living a life day after day. The one adventure I can never have.”
Rose: “Am I ever going to see you again?”
The Doctor: “You can’t.”
Rose: “What are you going to do?”
The Doctor: “I’ve got the TARDIS. Same old life. Last of the Time Lords.”
Rose: “On your own? I… I love you.”
The Doctor: “Quite right too. And I suppose… if it’s my last chance to say it… Rose Tyler…”
Notes
Billie Piper’s final regular appearance as Rose Tyler.
Rose, Mickey (Noel Clarke) and Jacquie (Camile Coduri) are now trapped on a parallel Earth. They are registered as dead on our Earth.
Shortly after ‘Army of Ghosts’ was broadcast, it was announced that Freema Agyeman (Adeola) had been cast as the Doctor’s new companion in the third series. She will not be playing the same character, though.
These episodes mark the first time in Doctor Who’s history that the Daleks and Cybermen have met.
The black Dalek actually made an accidental appearance at the 2006 British Academy Television Awards. It had never been seen on the show and was meant to be kept top secret.
The original cut of ‘Doomsday’ overran by six minutes.
Cameo appearances by spiritual medium Derek Acorah, TV presenters Alistair Appleton and Trisha Goddard, and Barbara Windsor (EastEnders).
The BBC launched a ‘Ghostwatch’ site to coincide with Army of Ghosts.
