Happy New Year 2017!
2017 has now officially arrived in the UK!
And so 2016 is over, and for many that will come as a relief. Yes, it’s fair to say that it wasn’t a great year for Doctor Who fans. Well the world in general actually, but we’ll not get into that here! With no full series of Doctor Who and just one episode, it was officially the quietest year since the show returned in 2005. Even 2009 had several specials to keep fans occupied. While we had a new spin-off in the form of Class towards the end of the year, it was met with a lukewarm reception and failed to ignite the fanbase in the same way as the main show or even past spin-offs.
It was a difficult year for this site too, and not just from the lack of show airing. Many long-time readers will have noticed some changes and a reduced output. This is a result of several factors. Pre-2016 DWTV was a full-time endeavour edited by one person, and supported entirely by advertising, but that is no longer a feasible model. With ads down and ad blockers up, keeping a popular site free without resorting to clickbait is a no win situation. We’ve only been able to keep things going in limited form thanks to loyal patrons, but things are still far from comfortable. If you like the site and want it to continue, please consider supporting in 2017. And for those that already have, thank you!
That aside, 2017 is looking more enticing for fans. There’s a bit of a wait again, but Series 10 is expected to air in a matter of months, around April time. We have a new companion and 12 episodes to look forward to. Then the 2017 Christmas special to end things, and also Steven Moffat’s era of the show.
Until then, have a very happy new year, everyone!
