More Details on Series 10’s First Three Episodes
The latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine (#511) contains some new story details and quotes on the first three episodes of Series 10.
1. The Pilot
Quote Unquote:
The Doctor: Imagine if time all happened at once. Every moment of your life laid out around you, like a city. Streets full of buildings made of days. The day you were born; the day you die. The day you fall in love; the day love ends. A whole city built from heartbreak, and triumph, and boredom, and laughter, and cutting your toenails. The best place you’ll ever be. Time is a structure relative to ourselves, existing in the space made by our lives. Time and Relative Dimension in Space. It means life.
2. Smile
In a nutshell:
The Doctor takes Bill to the colony world Gliese 581 D. It’s a bright, sunny world, tended to by the tiny bird-like Vardies and their user interface – the Emojibots. There’s just one thing missing: the colonists. As the Doctor and Bill investigate, they discover that to keep smiling is their only hope of staying alive…
Quote Unquote:
Bill: Is it a bit nuts that I’m not scared, just very excited?
The Doctor: Emojis, selfies, wearable communications. We’re in the Utopia of vacuous teens.
Bill: What’s Utopia?
The Doctor: An imaginary perfect place
Bill: This isn’t imaginary
The Doctor: I bet it isn’t perfect either
3. Thin Ice
In a nutshell:
4 February 1814. London. The Doctor and Bill chill out at the last great frost fair on the frozen Thames, enjoying the carnival atmosphere and eating pies. But sinister lights are swarming beneath the ice, luring people to their doom in the black depths of the river – and as the Doctor gets on the case, a desperate band of local urchins could provide the clues he needs. Someone powerful and ruthless is plotting to attract as many people to the fair as possible… but why? And what lurks at the bottom of the Thames, waiting implacably for the first ominous cracks in the ice?
Quote Unquote:
The Doctor: Conjecture. There’s something under the frozen Thames and it’s eating people.
Bill: Okay.
The Doctor: Proposal. We need a closer look at it.
Bill: Good, yeah.
The Doctor: Plan. Let’s get eaten.
