Ncuti Gatwa Has Already Begun Filming His Second (And Last?) Series
The BBC announced that Ncuti Gatwa has begun shooting his second series as the Doctor (and the fifteenth series of New Who in total). Yes, several months before fans have even had a chance to even see his first series. Such is the magic of TV.
The news was announced in a short video featuring the TARDIS.

This indicates that showrunner Russell T Davies is living up to his promise to deliver “annual Doctor Who” again. Certainly a nice change for Whovians after many years of gaps and inconsistent broadcasts!
However, Gatwa’s future beyond this series is still uncertain. In a conversation with Rolling Stone UK earlier in the year, Gatwa expressed his intentions to return to the theatre following the conclusion of filming his second series.
Gatwa commented: “[Theatre] kept me warm and it held me all night, even if I was broke. But I’m planning on getting back to it next year, after I finish season two of Doctor Who.”
Given RTD’s commitment to annual Doctor Who series, and with the time commitment required for filming, which typically occupies a significant portion of a year, the feasibility of Gatwa balancing both seems unlikely. But who knows?
Gatwa will debut in this year’s Christmas special. Series 14 is expected to air in 2024, with Series 15 in 2025.
