The Time of the Doctor TV Trailer Breakdown
Join us as we take an in-depth look at the first TV trailer for this year’s Christmas special, The Time of the Doctor.
The trailer opens with the Doctor and Clara in Christmas Town, which is located somewhere on Trenzalore.
We hear Clara narrating:
“And now it’s time for one last bow
Like all your other selves
Eleven’s hour is over now
The clock is striking twelve’s”
The Cybermen are the first of the main monsters to appear. Notice the similarities to the sets from Nightmare in Silver. Is this their ship or a base?
The Silent creatures are also back and, intriguingly, look to be on the same side as the Doctor now. Also notice the Doctor has a cane, but it doesn’t look like his Sonic one.
This is Tasha Lem played by Orla Brady. She is described as “someone from the Doctor’s past,” but who exactly? She looks to be affiliated with the Church from A Good Man Goes to War. Is she the villain?
As the recent pics revealed, the Silents have changed their look slightly and are now sporting turtleneck jumpers. Well, even they get cold in the winter!
Tasha Lem informs the Church members that “The siege of Trenzalore is now begun.”
Awkward English aside, is this where the “endless, bitter war” begins?
We hear someone say “The Time Lord has entered the trap.”
And there’s one thing you never put in a trap, if you’re smart…
Uh oh! Clara is blinking and you know what that means…
…The Weeping Angels!
And just how perfect do they look in the snow.
If you want to up the fear factor how about Angels that grab your legs while hidden in the snow?
Looks like they’ve got a hold of Clara. Is she about to get Ponded?
Clara: “Help him change the future. Do it!”
So who is Clara desperately pleading with here? Who has the power to change the future? One clue we have are the drawings in the background. The recently released pics (here and here) show images from many of the Matt Smith’s past adventures (and some we haven’t seen). So it’s someone who seems to know the Doctor very well…
