YOUR Verdict on Jodie Whittaker & “The Woman Who Fell To Earth”
It’s time to reveal DWTV’s first set of poll results for Series 11, as voted for by you over the last week. Our resident statistician, Josh, has been whisked away in the TARDIS for a little while, but may return at Christmas for a more in-depth analysis. Until then, we’ll run down the basics.
“How Excited Are You For Series 11?” – Results
First up, exactly one week before Doctor Who returned to our screens, we asked you to vote on how excited you were for the new series from a choice of five. Here’s how you voted:
As we can see, almost half voted “Extremely excited”.
Your first impressions of Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor – Results
Then, following the conclusion of episode one, we asked you to give us your first impressions of Jodie Whittaker in the iconic role. Here’s how you voted:
As we can see, although only 10% opted for the highest accolade, “Best Doctor Ever”, after a single episode (A tough ask for any actor in a 55-year old franchise), she still rated highly with just over 60% opting for “Very Good”. Not a bad start!
The Woman Who Fell To Earth: Stat Breakdown
As always, we asked you to rate the episode on a scale from 1 to 10. We then took an average.
- A few thousand of you voted, and the average score was 7.35. According to the Doctor Who TV score guide, this indicates the episode was generally considered “Good”. It’s not exactly the cream of the crop, but it was on the positive side of scores.
- This score leaves “The Woman Who Fell to Earth” as the 75th highest rated episode of the revival (according to the DWTV ranking polls taken from earlier this year). That places it around the middle of the rankings. More specifically, it is situated between “The Lodger” (7.44) and “Partners in Crime” (7.29).
- This means “The Woman Who Fell to Earth” is now Chris Chibnall’s highest rated Doctor Who episode so far, including his work pre-showrunner. His second highest “The Hungry Earth” only scored 6.68, so this was not hard to top, but indicates a marginal improvement for the writer. Perhaps that classic will come before the series is out.
- The standard deviation – which is our measure for how divisive an episode is – was 2.34. This is high, indicating significant divisiveness between voters.
- Finally, “The Woman Who Fell To Earth” is the 8th highest opener of the 11 in the revival to date, ahead of “Partners in Crime” (7.29), “Smith and Jones” (7.24) and “New Earth” (6.04).
