YOUR Verdict on “Orphan 55” – A New Low
It’s time to reveal DWTV’s poll results for the third episode of Series 12, “Orphan 55”, as voted for by you over the last week or so.
“Orphan 55”: Score Breakdown
As always, we asked you to rate the episode on a scale from 1 to 10. We then took an average.
- A few thousand of you voted, and the average score was 4.97. According to the Doctor Who TV score guide, this indicates the episode was generally considered to be in the “Average” range.
- “Average” isn’t an awful result on that term alone, but when we take into account how it fares in the wider context of all the revival episode scores so far, and it’s really not pleasant. In fact, a score this low means “Orphan 55” is now the 5th lowest rated episode of the whole revival (according to the DWTV ranking polls taken in 2018).
- For the first time in the site’s voting history, an episode goes straight to the bottom five. More specifically, it is situated between “Sleep No More” (5.04) and “The Doctor, the Widow & the Wardrobe” (4.96).
- This is the lowest recorded score DWTV has seen after only a week of voting. The previous record holder was “The Tsuranga Conundrum” from Series 11 with 5.17. Worryingly, the Chibnall era already has 4 episodes in the bottom 15 now.
- Only 5% of you gave “Orphan 55” full marks, whereas a majority 16% voted 1/10. Another new record.
- The standard deviation – which is our measure for how divisive an episode is – was 2.73. The number has risen again, indicating high polarisation between voters, although it’s not quite the worst we’ve seen.
- What can we say about this result? There’s no way to sugarcoat the stats: it’s a new low for the show. One we hopefully won’t see repeated anytime soon.
