YOUR Verdict on “The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos” – Ux-Oh
It’s time to reveal DWTV’s poll results for the tenth episode of Series 11, “The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos”, as voted for by you over the last week or so.
“The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos”: Stat Breakdown
As always, we asked you to rate the episode on a scale from 1 to 10. We then took an average.
- A few thousand of you voted, and the average score was 5.93. According to the Doctor Who TV score guide, this indicates the episode was generally considered to be in the “Average” range. When we look at the score in the wider context of the whole revival, things fare worse. In fact this is comfortably the lowest rated finale of the whole revival.
- For a solo Chibnall-written episode, this is in a similar spot to his last couple of stories. It’s not quite as low as “Tsuranga”, but it is placed towards the back end of episodes in the revival. In fact, it’s only just above “Arachnids” to make it Chibnall’s third lowest rated episode yet.
- This leaves “The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos” as the 14th lowest rated episode of the revival (according to the DWTV ranking polls taken from earlier in 2018). More specifically, it is situated between “Kill the Moon” (5.95) and “Arachnids in the UK” (5.91)
- The standard deviation – which is our measure for how divisive an episode is – was 2.75. While still extremely high, this is not quite the worst result this series. So that’s something.
- All in all, this is another disappointing result for Series 11, but not unexpected at this point. Aside from the opener, Chibnall’s solo outings have not performed well this year. On top of that, higher than average expectations for a finale no doubt contributed to a weaker reception. Perhaps the New Year special will end things with a much-needed bang…
Series 11 Episode Ranking
After ten episodes, the Series 11 ranking looks like this:

The poor performance of the finale pushed the series average back down to 6.70. If we don’t count the upcoming New Year special as part of the series, this result makes Series 11 the lowest rated series of the whole revival. The second lowest is Series 2 with an average score of 6.98 (13 episodes, not counting specials).
Conclusion
Well that’s it, for now. We of course still have the New Year special “Resolution” to analyse in a couple of weeks, but until then thanks for all your votes. And see you next time for hopefully a better result!
